Why Was My Card Top-Up Declined?
Modified on Tue, 23 Jun at 3:07 PM
Card payments can be declined for a handful of reasons — most are quick to resolve.
Common reasons
Unsupported card type
Only Visa and Mastercard are accepted. Check that your card carries a Visa or Mastercard logo.
Incorrect card details
Double-check your card number, expiry date, and billing address. Even a small mismatch can cause a decline.
3D Secure failed or timed out
Complete the verification step promptly when prompted. If the code didn't arrive or the session expired, try again from the start.
Your bank blocked the payment
Banks occasionally block unfamiliar transactions. Contact your bank to confirm and ask them to authorise the payment.
Insufficient funds
For debit cards, ensure your account has enough balance to cover the top-up amount.
Unsupported region
Some card issuers in certain regions may not support this type of payment.
What to do
Check your card details in the app and correct any errors.
Contact your bank — ask whether they blocked the transaction and why.
Try a different card if available.
If the issue persists, reach out to Wirex support with the date, amount, and last 4 digits of the card used.
FAQ
My bank says the payment went through, but it's not in my Wirex One account.
Can I retry the same card straight away?
Why is my card showing as invalid when I enter it?
Will a declined payment charge my card?
I completed 3D Secure but the payment still failed.
