What happens if I send to the wrong address?

Modified on Tue, 23 Jun at 2:23 PM

Blockchain transactions are irreversible. If you send crypto to the wrong address, the funds cannot be recalled or recovered by Wirex One.

Why crypto transfers cannot be reversed

Unlike bank transfers, blockchain transactions are final once broadcast to the network. There is no central authority that can intercept or reverse a confirmed transaction — not Wirex One, not the network itself.

Important: Always double-check the wallet address, network, and Memo before confirming any transfer.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

Wrong wallet address

Copy and paste addresses rather than typing them manually. Always verify the first and last few characters of the address after pasting.

Wrong network

Sending a token on the wrong network (e.g. USDC on ERC-20 instead of TRC-20) may result in permanent loss. Always confirm the network matches what the recipient expects.

Missing or incorrect Memo / Destination Tag

Some networks require a Memo or Destination Tag to route funds correctly. If omitted or entered incorrectly, the funds may be lost. Always include it if shown.

Sending an unsupported token

Only send tokens that are supported by the destination address. Sending an unsupported token may result in permanent loss.

What to do if you've sent to the wrong address

1

Act quickly — contact Wirex One support immediately with the transaction hash (TXID), the amount, and the address you sent to.

2

Contact the recipient platform — if the wrong address belongs to an exchange or another platform, contact their support team. Recovery is not guaranteed but may be possible in some cases.

Wirex One cannot recover funds sent to incorrect addresses. We will do our best to assist, but outcomes depend entirely on the blockchain and the destination.

FAQ

Can Wirex One recover my funds?
No — once a transaction is confirmed on-chain, it is irreversible. Wirex One has no ability to reverse or recall blockchain transactions.
What if I sent to an address on the wrong network?
If the address exists on both networks, the funds may be inaccessible unless you control the private key of that address. Contact Wirex One support for guidance.
What if I forgot to include the Memo?
Contact the destination platform's support team immediately. Some platforms can recover funds sent without a Memo, but this is not guaranteed.
How can I avoid this in the future?
Always copy and paste addresses, verify the network, and include the Memo if required. Take a moment to review the full details on the Review screen before tapping Confirm.
