Why You See a Device Security Warning
Modified on Mon, 19 Oct at 8:33 PM
Wirex One may show a warning if your device appears to be rooted or jailbroken. This article explains what that means and what you can do.
What “rooted” and “jailbroken” mean
- Rooted — an Android device where the restrictions set by the manufacturer have been removed to give full control over the system.
- Jailbroken — the same kind of modification on an iPhone.
These changes remove some of the protections built into your phone's software.
Why it matters
On a modified device, the built-in protections that keep apps separate and protect your data are weaker. This can make it easier for malicious apps to access information on your device, which can put your personal and financial data at greater risk.
What you can do
Consider using an unmodified device for financial apps.
Keep your device up to date by installing official system updates.
Install apps only from official stores: Google Play or the App Store.
Avoid untrusted apps and tweaks.
If you've modified your device on purpose and want to keep it that way, be especially careful about what you install.Seeing the warning but haven't modified your device?
The warning may sometimes appear even when you haven't modified your device. If you bought the device second-hand, a previous owner may have changed it.
If you think the warning is a mistake, contact Wirex One support and include:
- Your device model
- Your operating system version
- A screenshot of the warning
